A longtime El Paso resident (since 1978), Dr. Applebaum earned his B.S. at UTEP (1988) and his Doctor of Optometry at the University of Houston (1993). He opened his first practice in 1994 and founded Apple Eye Care in 1999—continuing a commitment to community-rooted, patient-first eye care. Dr. Applebaum invests in modern diagnostics to analyze your vision, including advanced retinal imaging (DRI OCT Triton) used for early detection and precise management of eye conditions. Nidia brings years of eye care experience and a calm, welcoming presence from check-in through pre-testing. An optician since 1993 and with Apple Eye Care since 1999, Efren is known for precise fits and practical advice. Maggie has experience as a Medical Assistant for Retinal Opthalmologist and is ready to share that experience here at Apple Eye Care. Your visit includes corneal curvature measurements, a tear evaluation, and lens fit assessment—plus time for training if you’re new to contacts. This focused exam ensures comfort, clarity, and safe, healthy wear. First, we talk about your vision goals—work, screens, sports, convenience. Next, we measure for fit and oxygen needs, then try lenses to test vision and comfort. You’ll learn how to insert/remove, clean, and care for lenses. If needed, we schedule a quick follow-up to fine-tune power or fit. Whether you’re trying contacts for the first time, dealing with dryness or discomfort, or ready to upgrade to easier care options, we’ll guide you. We also fit lenses for astigmatism and presbyopia, and help active patients choose lenses that match their routine. Check-in is simple. Pre-testing is quick and comfortable. Your doctor will review results, examine eye health, and discuss your prescription. You’ll leave with next steps—glasses, contacts, or follow-up care—without feeling rushed. Daily disposables — Fresh lens every day, minimal care, great for comfort and hygiene. Bi-weekly / monthly — Cost-effective with proper cleaning and timely replacement. Toric lenses for astigmatism — Stable fit and crisp vision. Multifocal contacts — Clear near-to-far vision without switching glasses. We accept many plans (including Tricare, Blue Shield, New Mexico Medicaid, VSP, Superior Vision, OptiCare). If your plan isn’t listed, call us—we may accept it. Often yes. Contact lens exams include extra measurements, trial lenses, and training. We’ll review any fitting fees before we begin.
